Key role for TRADA at Ecobuild
TRADA’s membership and marketing manager Rupert Scott will be chairing two key sessions at Explore Offsite, while visitors to TRADA stand will get a sneak peek at its much-awaited new website.
Mr Scott will be chairing sessions on structural timber and hybrid construction at what promises to be the largest examination of offsite solutions of its kind ever seen in the UK.
Meanwhile, visitors to TRADA’s stand will get an opportunity to check out the organisation’s major new website, which promises to deliver the UK’s most comprehensive range of timber information at the click of a button.
TRADA’s experts on stand G113 will be available to answer any questions on timber and timber-related products. Topics could include anything from timber frame construction to engineered timber, panel products to EC5. Visitors to the stand can come armed with questions or alternatively make appointments in advance via available.
Linking with academia
TRADA’s University Engagement Programme manager Tim Belden will be on hand to talk about the initiative that fosters relationships with universities throughout the UK, supported by a suite of learning resources and student competitions.
Tim will be available to talk with lecturers and students alike about the benefits of working with timber and how TRADA can encourage learning with its array of wood information.
Visitors will also be able to find out more about TRADA’s Student Design Competition. This year’s competition – dubbed C02nnect - challenges students to think about the wider issues surrounding carbon sequestration and the possibility of re-using timber modular buildings.
Students face a challenging brief to design a modular timber panel system that can be easily transported for re-use. They will be competing for the top prize of £1,500 plus recognition by the industry of their innovative design. Total prize fund for the competition is £3,000.
TRADA publishes a wide range of timber information on its website. While some of these are for members only, there is a vast number of publications that are either free to download or available at cost-effective prices. Many of these will be available for FREE on the Ecobuild stand, including Wood Information Sheets, Case Studies and Learning Resources. Come to the stand to see what’s on offer – you won’t be disappointed!

Come to TRADA’s stand to see TRADA Bookshop’s latest publications and save £5. They include Structural timber elements: a pre-scheme design guide, which highlights ways that designers can iron out any issues in the early stages when working with timber.
The guide has been developed for use as an at-a-glance comparative reference for structural timber options to assist with the pre-scheme design process.
Also available to view will be a draft copy of the National structural timber specification 2.0 (NSTS). This much-awaited update includes added coverage of hardwoods for the first time. Developed by TRADA experts, the NSTS has been written to cover information exchange, materials, fabrication, erection, protection, and quality assurance within timber design, specification and use. It provides a definitive, comprehensive, stand-alone specification for structural timber in building construction.
