The 4th annual ASBP Awards return for 2021–22 and is the biggest yet, with recognition given to exemplary sustainable building projects, innovative products and forward-thinking initiatives.

We are excited to announce that our university design challenge #RSUDC21 has been longlisted for the ASBP 2022 Awards Initiative Category. The Awards judged against the ASBP’s Six Pillars of Sustainable Construction.

To decarbonise construction our future professionals will need to be climate literate, work in interdisciplinary teams and understand how to design, cost, specify, and build efficiently and effectively with timber. Universities do not provide this knowledge! Timber Development UK and eighty professionals delivered online education and a challenge to design homes that exceed the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge.

We are in a climate and biodiversity emergency and yet 'Business as Usual' continues. Trees and timber are one of the solutions to decarbonising our built environment which currently emits 40% of greenhouse gasses. Our future Built Environment professionals leave university after 4 to 7 years climate illiterate with little or no timber knowledge. They rarely cross the professional silos into interdisciplinary working – so how is anything going to change?

Timber Development UK, via its University Engagement Programme, devised and implemented a competition which bought together speakers at the forefront of their professions to educate Built Environment students and recent graduates and challenged them to form interdisciplinary teams and use the information provided to design for a live site in Sunderland.
