Levelling up the timber industry: Conference updates!
With Timber Expo now behind us, it’s time for TRADA to start looking ahead to our next big event: the one-day Better Timber Buildings conference taking place on 15 November in the centre of London.
We’re delighted to announce that our keynote address will be given by Anthony Thistleton, a founding Partner of Waugh Thistleton Architects, who will take the stage to discuss Structural timber in the 2020s: key priorities for the sector. Not only is Anthony a passionate advocate of timber construction, he has spent over 20 years – through Waugh Thistleton Architects – fostering a reputation for truly beautiful, sustainable buildings.
On the Timber Focus Theatre at Timber Expo, Anthony told us how a student once went to a trade show and came back with a little block of cross-laminated timber – the practice’s first exposure to the engineered wood many years ago. Now attendees will have the opportunity to listen to him deliberate upon the 2020s and highlight the actions we need to undertake as an industry in order to grow and build better buildings. As a timber pioneer, Anthony reflects on Waugh Thistleton Architects’ experiences and what he personally believes is possible – is timber, for its carbon sequestration, the best counter by architects to climate change?
Anthony joins renowned speakers from Arup, Heyne Tillett Steel, Hybrid Structures, Exova BM TRADA, NHBC and Gardiner & Theobald, who together make up our informative seminar programme. For full details about the sessions taking place, download the brochure.
We are also pleased to share with you our exhibitors so far, including ZÜBLIN Timber, Pliteq UK, Gilmour & Aitken, PIVETEAUBOIS, Wiehag, Steico UK Ltd and the Structural Timber Magazine, all of whom are prepared for clued-up conversation during the networking breaks in the programme. Each exhibitor complements our practical and stimulating conference, has a well-established presence in the larger timber industry, and covers a diverse range of expertise between them.
The TRADA Bookshop will be there with a great selection of books available to all participants at member prices and – exclusive to this event – we’ll also have a very special one-time offer. For every book over £20 purchased on the day we’ll be offering a free copy of another book from a selection of our best-selling titles, while stocks last. So make sure you attend to check out our informative timber resources, including Cross-laminated timber: design and performance, Structural timber elements: a pre-scheme design guide 2nd edition, the new third edition of Timber decking: the professionals’ manual, and Site check: the timber frame pocket guide. All orders will be sent postage-free (within the UK) after the event.
Tickets to this popular event are £99 for TRADA members, £119 for non-members and £20 for students. However, book today and take advantage of our early bird offer which is £89 for TRADA members and £109 for non-members, available until 2 November 2018.
