The ASBP Healthy Buildings Conference and Expo returns in 2020 on 27 February at the Human Rights Action Centre in London.

The theme for this year's conference is 'Healthy Buildings in a Climate Emergency' and speakers will explore how to accelerate the delivery of net zero carbon buildings that are healthy for occupants as well as our planet.

Keynote speakers include Sam Conniff Allende, award-winning social entrepreneur and author of bestselling book ‘Be More Pirate’ and Mary Creagh, MP for Wakefield from 2005-2019 and former chair of the Environment Audit Select Committee.

We are in the midst of a global climate emergency, recognised in the UK by Parliament and over 150 local authorities. Across the construction industry, over 700 organisations and counting have made declarations, including major architecture and engineering practices, universities and NGOs. But what are the next steps?

It’s clear that cross-sector collaboration is needed to develop a detailed and ambitious plan to address the climate emergency and help meet net zero targets for operational and embodied energy in buildings.

But what will this mean for our daily lives and how will this affect the way in which we design, construct, maintain and operate our buildings?

How do we change our behaviour as an industry, and will the climate emergency provide a once-in-a-generation opportunity for architects, designers and product manufacturers to raise their game en masse and change the way we live and work forever?

Speakers include:

  • Gary Newman, ASBP
  • John Palmer, Passivhaus Trust
  • Marianne Suhr, The Old House Consultancy
  • Carol Costello, Cullinan Studio
  • Stephen Richardson, World Green Building Council
  • Patrick Staunton, CBRE
  • Sani Dimitroulopoulou, Public Health England
  • Harry Paticas, Arboreal Architecture
  • Mark Lynn, Thermafleece and ASBP Vice-Chair
  • Katherine Adams, ASBP

Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from over 10 exhibitors and the 6 finalists of the ASBP Awards 2020, who will present their projects for the chance to impress the audience and claim the Peoples' Prize.

The conference and expo is a must-attend event for those involved in sustainable construction, product innovation and 'healthy building' development. Held annually, previous conferences have focused on topical themes such as plastics in construction, fire & toxicity, indoor air quality and healthy, low carbon building products.
