This informative workshop is aimed at engineers, although engineering technicians or anyone interested in the design and/or checking of timber structures to EC5 can benefit. Participants will be introduced to the general concepts of Eurocodes through an introduction to the Eurocode 0 - the basis of structural design and Eurocode 1 - the "loading" equivalent to BS 6399. The differences between the BS 5268 permissible stress design approach and the EC5 limit state design philosophy will then be highlighted through clear illustrative examples. Design of timber elements will be discussed in depth throughout the workshop with worked examples.
