Building up on the introductory workshop on design to Eurocode 5, this workshop is aimed mostly at engineers who have had some design experience with timber structures. Delegates are encouraged to book the two courses together to get the maximum benefit, though not essential. The day starts with an introduction to the EC5 approach to the connections, comparing and contrasting the method with the BS 5268 approach. Practical design examples will be used to explain all the major fastener types, nails, screws, bolts and dowels.

Introduction to BS EN 1995; (Eurocode 5, timber design)
Introduction to connections (Section 8 of Eurocode 5 and BS EN 14594)
Dowel type fastener types, introduction to Johansen theory
Embedment strength
Yield moment
Axial effects, head pull-through, bearing of heads, nuts, and washers, withdrawal resistance
Fully worked examples for nails, screws, bolts and dowels with free introduction to TRADA software suites
Printed worked examples will also be distributed FREE of charge and will serve as invaluable future references.
