Duration
Start Date: September 2001
Finish Date: August 2004
Background
Currently wooden joinery is primed and preservative pre-treated using multiple operations which incur a time and cost penalty during manufacture. This research was conceived through a necessity to add value to wood joinery whilst keeping costs to a minimum by integrating the priming and preservation operations into a single process.
Project Aim

To make wood joinery in Europe more competitive by improving its stability and durability through a process of vacuum pressure impregnation of the primer and preservative in a single treatment operation.
