Testing the glue bond of plywood to EN 314-1 Plywood. Bonding quality. Test
methods and 314-2 Plywood. Bonding quality. Requirements. involves a visual assessment of
the percentage wood fibre failure following a shear test of specimens. The assessment is
made against a set of photographs included in the Standards. Such comparison is
necessarily subjective and the results have been found to vary from person to person.
To develop a Europe-wide PC-based imaging and calibration system and personnel
training programme for plywood bonding tests. This will have application in internal
quality control and as part of third party certification schemes.
