Background

The potential for timber as a structural engineering material is far from being realised, despite significant developments in innovative products such as webbed beams and panels, laminates and novel connection systems. The creation of a teaching resource is intended not only to strengthen the design capabilities of present and future users but to provide inspiration for the future use of timber.

Project Aim

To develop an IT Teaching Package to provide adaptable timber engineering teaching material for all UK University civil and structural engineering departments, teachers of engineering and technology in architecture plus other university and college engineering and architectural courses.

In addition, the package will provide an invaluable source of information for construction professionals, particularly the recently qualified, on best practice timber design advice.
