Duration
Start Date: June 2001
Finish Date: August 2003
Background
The distribution and storage of timber products is a significant element of their cost and environmental impact. With the timber industry dominated by a large number of small companies, wood products can undergo several journeys and changes of ownership between manufacture and final end use.
Project Aim
To demonstrate how better supply chain management can make significant savings in the environmental impact of storage and distribution of timber and timber products. Changes in business practice cannot be imposed and inevitably take time to be implemented. The project will encourage change by giving proven examples of current and best practices from a range of industries, supported by cost benefit analysis and mathematical modeling.
