Please note that although this version of the Span Tables is still available, a new 2nd edition was published on 24th June 2008. The new edition also includes additional sizes, tables for trimmers and trimming joists, information on fixings and frequently asked questions are now addressed in the notes alongside the tables. The tables in this publication have, until now, been included in the England and Wales Building Regulations, Approved Document A: Structure. The most recent version, however, no longer contains these tables, instead referring to this TRADA Technology document.
The tables are for softwoods of Strength Classes C16 and C24 for use in Service Classes 1 or 2. The tables include domestic floor joists, ceiling joists and binders, rafters and purlins supporting rafters for traditional pitched roofs of slopes from 15 - 45 degrees. Flat roof joists with access for maintenance and repair and for unlimited access are included. Finally, tables for 'canted' purlins supporting roof sheeting or cladding where the roof slope is from 10 to 35 degrees are given. |
