Timber in joinery

Timber in joinery

Timber in joinery

From Wood Information Sheet 4-16

Introduction

The quality of timber in joinery can be specified by reference to BS EN 942: 1996 Timber in joinery - General classification of timber quality. The standard categorises the quality of timber used in joinery by defining requirements against which the physical characteristics of the timber can be measured.

The first section of this Wood Information Sheet provides an outline of the requirements of BS EN 942. For specific guidance and for detailed specifications the standard itself and any relevant product standards should be consulted. The second section gives some more general guidance relating to specifying timber in joinery.
