Printing Problems?

Directors' Briefing PDFs are more complicated than, say, ordinary word processed documents - they contain graphics and text using different fonts and different layouts. This places heavier demand on printers when they are printing the files. This means that your printer may have difficulty printing out briefings even if it prints ordinary word processed documents correctly.

Common causes of problems include:

  • You may have set up your printer incorrectly or be using an out-of-date 'printer driver'.
  • You may have problems with the way your network is set up.

Solutions

As different organisations use different printers and different setups, there is no one solution. Ask your systems or network administrator to try the following suggestions.

1. Most problems can be solved by adjusting your printer settings (depending on your particular printer and printer driver):

  • Set the printer to 'raster' mode.
  • Select 'True Type as bitmaps'.
  • Reduce resolution to 300 dpi.
  • Set page protection ON.
  • Turn print manager OFF.
  • Turn ATM OFF.

2. If your printer can use 'PostScript', use Postscript. If there is still a problem, try using the Adobe PostScript driver for that system, available from:

The Internet (http://www.adobe.com/).

If there is still a problem, try setting the driver to 'optimise for portability'.

3. If your printer only uses PCL, make sure that you have the latest version of the printer driver available from:

Your supplier.

The Internet for most brands of printer.

4. Check all connections are secure.
