The recently revised Approved Document L to the England & Wales Building Regulations (and equivalents for Scotland and Northern Ireland) require building elements such as doors, windows, walls and roofs to achieve higher standards of thermal efficiency.
In most cases window and door manufacturers will have to be able to prove independently the U-Value performance of their products. This can be achieved through simulation or test.
Simulation is frequently the most attractive option of the two because of the ease with which you can consider alterations to a design. Minor changes can often make the difference between meeting a target value and falling below it.
Chiltern Dynamics (TRADA Technology's sister company) has therefore set up a thermal simulation service to model the thermal performance of external doors and windows to BS EN ISO 10077-1 or pr EN ISO 10077-2. Our simulations are prepared and / or checked by staff, who have been accredited by the BFRC (British Fenestration Ratings Council) for carrying out such a task.
BM TRADA (TRADA Technology's sister company) was the first certification body to be approved by the BFRC to provide certified BFRC window energy ratings to window manufacturers.
