To assess the likely toxicity of Indian lacquered wooden products in the context of US and EU import requirements

Activities
- Using information obtained from the manufacturers, review available public data on the classes and types of lacquers, pigments and other materials used.
- Provide details of relevant regulations in the EU and US concerning the supply of wooden products, decorated and treated with chemical products.
- Liaise with the appropriate regulatory bodies in the EU and US to determine their policy on traditional and plant extract products in wooden articles intended for use as toys.
- Agree with appropriate regulatory bodies on a level of information required for the import of traditional wooden articles for use as toys.
Outputs
- A report to the manufacturers outlining the concerns of the regulators, their expected requirements and estimated cost and time to meet these requirements
- Recommendations on the use of alternative chemicals to ensure conformity with EU and US regulations
