Project aims
To identify the areas for potential collaboration between British and Chinese institutions in industrial processing, training and research relating to solid timber, wood-based composite materials and biomass energy

Activities
- Determination of the institutional framework of forest product industries and their interrelation with government and academic institutions
- Identification of problems faced in the forest products industries sector, including the key areas of drying, preservation, grading, waste, utilisation of energy, reconstituted timber and non-timber forest products
- Recommendation of development, augmentation and implementation strategies for technologies and capabilities relating to the key areas, with the emphasis on local needs, efficient use of forest resources and minimising environmental impact
- Recommendations for assistance in the areas of processing, training, management and quality control and assurance systems
- Provision of plans for collaborative research and development programmes, including training packages and the supply of equipment as necessary
