Activities
An in-country review of progress in respect of the:
- Establishment of updated/efficient basic and grade stresses for Kenyan-grown plantation softwoods
- Evaluation of the availability of graded timber and the promotion of its use
- Production of a ‘draft’ national design code/standard covering the structural use of Kenyan-grown timbers
- Continuing development of the in-house (Ministry of Public Works) system of standard nailed timber roof trusseswas carried out through the visits to associated government institutions and private sector companies.
Outputs
Based on the visit, a report was prepared and distributed to appropriate parties commenting on:
- Completeness and value of the work and its relevance to the wider issue of forest conservation
- Harmonisation with similar work in developed and developing countries
- Recommendations for further work, the implications of such work and how TRADA Technology could assist the implementation
