TRADA Technology, in consultation with sister company CCB Evolution, has now published four guidance documents on cross-laminated timber (CL), including a worked example of a 12-storey building constructed to Eurocode 5.
The complete series includes two Wood Information Sheets, Cross-laminated timber: introduction for specifiers and Cross-laminated timber: structural principles. More detailed guidance on the design of CL structures is given in Guidance Document GD10: Cross-laminated timber - design guide for project feasibility, along with Guidance Document Worked Example 12-storey building of cross-laminated timber (Eurocode 5).
Cross-laminated timber offers opportunities to use timber in situations where designers would normally use traditional materials such as steel, concrete and masonry. As with any new structural material, TRADA stresses, it is essential that designers understand how to achieve its potential while respecting its limitations. The CL series considers the product from manufacture to end use, including general erection principles.
The documents are available in PDF format for download from the TRADA Bookshop. Cross-laminated timber: introduction for specifiers and Cross-laminated timber: structural principles are free of charge to members or£12.00 each for non-members. GD10 and the worked example each cost £20 to members or £35 to non-members. Package price to download all four publications is £40.00 and £84.00 respectively.
