Eurocode 5 design workshop – only a few places left
Only a few places remain on TRADA Technology's one-day introductory workshop on Design to Eurocode 5 (EC5) aimed at anyone interested in designing timber structures to EC5. The primary objective is to discuss worked examples, to facilitate a better understanding of the intricacies involved.
The period of coexistence for BS 5268, the current British code of practice for timber, and its European counterpart EC5, which is to become the official rulebook for UK structural engineers, is to end in March 2010.
With the recent publication of the UK National Annex for wind designs, almost all timber designs can now be fully calculated according to EC5. The most significant change as far as timber design is concerned, is the adoption in EC5 of the limit state design philosophy. This new philosophy ensures that the same basis of design is used for all materials. Once designers become familiar with the Eurocodes, this will make it much easier for them to choose and combine materials.
The workshop will take place on 2nd July and will be repeated on 29th September at TRADA's High Wycombe headquarters from 9.30am - 4.30pm and will be of interest to engineers and engineering technicians who are involved in design and/or checking.
Cost is £199 + VAT for TRADA members and £259 + VAT for non-members, to include a FREE copy of Manual for design of timber building structures to Eurocode 5, a joint publication by TRADA and the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE). Printed worked examples will also be distributed free of charge.
