TRADA cooperation with STATS
The TRADA in the North: Recycling Historic Buildings seminar in Dean Clough Mill, Halifax this week marked the start of a new cooperation between TRADA Technology and specialist engineering, materials and environmental consultants STATS.
The company's Paul Bennett-Hughes made a presentation entitled ‘It's not just bricks and mortar. The importance of assessing the structural fabric of historic buildings' to more than 60 delegates at the event, underlining STATS' expertise in construction materials other than timber.
This, said TRADA Technology's Site-Based Services Manager Dr Andy Pitman, is what makes the cooperation agreement so valuable. ‘ We at TRADA are experts in timber, but nowadays it is important to view timber and how it interacts with other materials in the context of the construction industry as a whole. We cannot afford to be insular and TRADA members can only benefit from sharing our expertise with STATS and understanding better the performance of non-timber materials.'
The Halifax seminar stressed the importance of preserving the country's heritage. ‘There is a definite need for expertise in evaluating historic properties, assessing the materials they are made from and preserving as much of the original fabric of the structure as is prudent. Working with STATS, TRADA Technology will be able to add depth and breadth to our non-destructive testing and assessment services, ' Dr Pitman added.
