Restarting timber frame projects – free training
Recognising there are a number of issues associated with recommencing work on incomplete timber frame buildings, TRADA Technology is staging a free one-day training course on 7 th July 2009 entitled ‘ Restarting timber frame projects'. The course is aimed at housing associations, insurance companies and timber frame manufacturers.
The day will help delegates to understand some of the challenges and obstacles encountered when recommencing work, along with practical advice on how to overcome them. The course will also include presentations on the effect of moisture content on the long term performance of timber, including:
- Leaching of preservative treatments from wood
- Swelling and loss of strength of composite board components (eg OSB and chipboard)
- UV degradation of breather membranes
- Decay of timber components
- Moisture content elevation in timbers and risk from longer-term decay
- Performance of other materials such as insulation and linings.

Now in its fourth edition, all sections have been revised to reflect current best practice and regulatory requirements and it now includes more than 250 drawings. Delegates who buy Timber frame construction will receive a free wood information sheet on timber frame design for flood-prone sites. Cost to TRADA members is £30.00 and non-members £55.00.
