TRADA Technology extends EC5 workshops into 2010
 To meet demand, TRADA Technology has added further dates for its one-day introductory workshops on Design to Eurocode 5 (EC5), set to become the official rulebook for UK structural engineers on 31 st March 2010 when the coexistence period with BS 5268 ends. The primary objective of the workshops is to facilitate a better understanding of the intricacies involved through practical worked examples.
The most significant change for timber design is the adoption in EC5 of the limit state design philosophy. ‘This philosophy ensures that the same basis of design is used for all materials. Once designers become familiar with the Eurocodes, this will make it much easier for them to choose and combine materials,' said TRADA Technology Senior Structural Engineer Dr Keerthi Ranasinghe.
The workshops will be of interest to engineers and engineering technicians who are involved in design and/or checking and will take place at TRADA's High Wycombe headquarters from 9.30am - 4.30pm on the following dates:
- 29th September 2009 (Fully booked)
- 25th November 2009 (Fully booked)
- 9th February 2010
- 9th March 2010
Cost is £199 + VAT for TRADA members and £259 + VAT for non-members, to include a free copy of Manual for design of timber building structures to Eurocode 5, a joint publication by TRADA and the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE). Printed worked examples will also be distributed free of charge.
