Simon Fineman is elected TRADA Chairman
Simon Fineman, Group Chief Executive of leading hardwood and panel products suppliers Timbmet, was unanimously elected Chairman of TRADA (the Timber Research and Development Association) at its AGM last week.
An ardent campaigner for the timber industry to take a firm stance on environmental issues, he is also committed to enhancing the efficiency of the timber supply chain. Mr Fineman graduated in Law from the School of African and Oriental Studies at the University of London (SOAS) and initially pursued a career in the public sector, before building up his own furniture manufacturing business overseas. He returned to the UK in the early 1990's and joined the Timbmet Group.
He said.' The timber trade has to become more innovative, finding new ways to add value. That needs investment in research and development, where TRADA is at the forefront. As one of the largest independent companies in the industry, we also believe it is important that we support the trade bodies that make a positive and measurable contribution to the industry's future.'
Mr Fineman succeeds Richard Burbidge OBE. TRADA Chief Executive Andrew Abbott thanked Mr Burbidge warmly for his contribution. ‘Richard has been an active and energetic Chairman who has overseen a period of strong growth and development within TRADA. Simon is taking over the reins at a more turbulent time, when the industry is facing a serious downturn. With his leadership, however, we intend to build on our strengths and continue to invest in research and information to expand the market for timber.'
