BM TRADA and the Timber Trade Federation (TTF) have firmed up details of their joint seminar to explain the requirements for structurally graded plywood and CE marking. This will now take place at the IOD in London on 3rd September and is open to members and non-members of TRADA and the TTF.
As reported in last month's E-news, the initiative is designed to address concerns in the UK about falsely marked plywood arriving in the UK from China. Chinese manufacturers have suffered a loss of confidence in their product in Europe because certain mills have falsified CE marks on sub-standard products. This has given rise to concerns about unreliable quality and has created a nervousness to sell into structural markets, raising issues of liability.
The joint BM TRADA/TTF seminar is aimed at directors and senior managers involved with purchasing plywood, including agents, importers and merchants, as well as Building Control officers.
According to Mark Wilkinson, BM TRADA Business Development Manager. ‘CE marking is based on the principle that a manufacturer should be able to prove that its product is fit for its intended end use. It also demonstrates that it meets the requirements of a European Technical Specification, in this case EN13986 Wood based panels for use in construction.' Exporters to Europe must prove compliance with the Construction Products Directive (CPD).
The day's programme will be posted on the TRADA and TTF websites in the near future.
