Innovative timber screws underpinned by TRADA assessment

TRADA Technology has assessed the HECO -TOPIX® range of structural timber screws to BS EN-14592:2008 Timber structures. Dowel-type fasteners. Requirements, to comply with NHBC and building regulations requirements for timber and glulam, including Eurocode 5.

Manufactured in Germany and stocked exclusively in the UK by Aptus Fastener Systems, the innovative HECO -TOPIX® range requires virtually no pre-drilling and additional metalwork. Although the product features in several high profile projects in the UK, including the Olympic velodrome under construction for 2012, gaining an independent ‘seal of approval, was important to the manufacturer, said Aptus Fastener Systems' Sales Manager Winston Kilburn.

‘The product has much to commend it, including speed of construction and shear strengths comparable with a bolted joint, but the TRADA Technology assessment gives potential users added reassurance that it is a viable alternative to more traditional nails, bolts and joist hangers.'

The HECO -TOPIX® screws can be used with any softwood and most hardwoods without predrilling, for a variety of end uses, including the construction of SIPS panels, timber framing, joists, staircases and exterior landscaping/garden structures.
