Green Oak in Construction Short Listed for RIBA Awards 2008
We are proud to announce that Green Oak in Construction has made the final shortlist of five publications. The prestigious award winner will be announced in London on the 28th May and we will publish the results on the website.
The Sir Robert McAlpine International Book Award for Construction recognises exceptional writing on the construction and restoration of buildings, building design and building methods, and the use of new materials and technologies across the construction industry.
“This is such a successful publication because it addresses topics that are not covered in other texts. Examples of this include dealing with the creep of green elements that dry out under load. Also, making allowance for moisture movement within the detailing of the enclosures of green oak framing. Special procedures are required for the selection and grading of carpentry oak, which we went to trouble to explain in detail, aiming at bridging the gap between the practical carpenters who make these structures, and the engineers who have to approve their safety and serviceability. We were fortunate to have access to such a diverse and interesting series of case studies, so that we could illustrate the versatility of this outstandingly sustainable and increasingly popular method of construction”.Christopher Mettem, on behalf of the authoring team for Green Oak in Construction
