New sponsors for TRADA In Touch with Timber event

In Touch with Timber 2010TRADA has signed up leading industry names to sponsor its 2010 In Touch with Timber conference. An exhibition of timber products and services is a key part of the event and much praised by delegates. Sponsors this year now include Arch Timber Protection, Canada Wood, Dupont Building Innovations, Gang-Nail Systems, James Jones & Sons, PEFC UK, Titan Wood (promoting Accoya) and Wiehag Timber Construction. The event takes place on 18th May at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster.

Andrew Waugh of Waugh Thistleton Architects, designers of the innovative Murray Grove town house, will speak on ‘Using cross-laminated timber to break new ground'. Fellow speakers include Niall McLaughlin (Niall McLaughlin Architects) with Tim Lucas (Price & Myers) on the Structural Wood Award-winning Deal Pier & Cafe Bar and Paul Fast (Fast and Epp Engineers), giving an insight into the Wood Wave roof system of the Richmond Oval. In addition, architectural author and journalist Ruth Slavid will select favourite refurbishment case studies from a forthcoming TRADA publication.

The afternoon programme offers a range of short workshops, themed to enable delegates to pursue particular interests. Topics include: How building with wood can help tackle climate change, Simon Smith (Ramboll UK); Achieving high performance with wood windows, Patrick Hislop RIBA (TRADA Technology); Achieving thermal comfort using timber frame, Robin Lancashire (TRADA Technology); New engineered timber products, Martin Milner, (CCB Evolution); Re-using timber in refurbishment projects, John Williams, (TRADA Technology); How EC5 may change the structural timber market, Keerthi Ranasinghe, (TRADA Technology).
