Busy start to the year for TRADA Universities Liaison Manager
The first quarter of 2012 has been a busy one for TRADA University Liaison Manager Elizabeth Turner with a wide range of activities targeting both students and academics. In addition, numerous lectures have been delivered to university students UK-wide and the academic resources extended to four full modules.
The Dan Kemp Memorial pavilion at Ecobuild was a roaring success, with the staff and students from Oxford Brookes University - and particularly winner Stephanie Lewis - all thoroughly engaged with the Timbmet sponsored competition that will run again next year.
TRADA also attended Coventry University to help judge a beam building competition. Students had designed and built a glulam, box or I beam and having predicted the strength, broke the beams in the testing hall to determine their actual strength and how this compared to their predictions. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in May and students will be awarded a copy of Timber in Contemporary Architecture.
Elizabeth has also met with timber research specialists at University of Bath, Edinburgh Napier University and Bangor University to see how TRADA can best collaborate and support their important work.
The final units in further topics in timber engineering have now been published extending the Academic resources to four full modules. These are available to academic and TRADA members at www.trada.co.uk/academic.
