‘TRADA in the Regions': impact of Eurocode 5 on timber industry
To help the timber industry understand the impact Eurocode 5 might have on their business, TRADA will hold two ‘TRADA in the Regions' evening seminars in November, in London and Leeds.
TRADA Senior Structural Engineer Dr Keerthi Ranasinghe will lead a discussion on the philosophy of the Eurocodes in general, highlighting the changes Eurocode 5 will bring. Dr Ranasinghe said, ‘There is a widely held myth that the new code of practice changes the way engineers design, while in fact it will make it easier for designers who are unaccustomed to dealing with timber to try it out. The new code should also facilitate international tendering and international projects.'
The evening programme will also include a further talk on peripheral issues related to EC5, along with an introduction to TRADA and the opportunity to give feedback on future plans. Dr Ranasinghe said, ‘The evenings are designed to take the mystique out of EC5 and promote a better understanding of the many opportunities this new code affords timber suppliers as well as designers. It will provide a great opportunity to meet and network with a wide range of people in the timber industry.'
