Description

timbersizer EC5 is a time saving online tool for architects, builders, engineers and other construction professionals. It will help ensure their designs meet the requirements of Eurocode 5 (EC5) which replaced British Standard 5268, the previous code for timber structures, in April 2010.

Based on TRADA calculations, timbersizer EC5 covers all domestic structural timber members:
- Joists for domestic floors, ceilings or flat roofs
- Binders supporting ceiling joists
- Rafters
- Purlins supporting rafters, sheeting or decking

Designers can enter deign values for given criteria such as the span, spacing and dead load. timbersizer EC5 instantly calculates the results, stating whether or not the design meets the requirements of EC5. Calculations are consistent with the revised EC5 edition of TRADAs well known publication Span tables.

Users can access the online tool from a PC or MAC, whenever they choose. TRADA engineers maintain timbersizer EC5 to ensure it always reflects the latest version of Eurocode 5. All members of TRADA automatically receive free access to timbersizer EC5 as part of their membership benefits.
timbersizerPro EC5 is an extension of timbersizer, with additional functionality for professional designers.

timbersizer EC5 is based on standard design criteria, while timbersizerPro subscribers can further refine their design using advanced controls to adjust more parameters, for example:
- The strength class
- Breadth or cross section depth
- Bearing length
- Distributed imposed load
- Concentrated imposed load

timbersizerPro generates custom reports in PDF format for records and Building Control purposes. These reports demonstrate where the design meets or fails to meet the requirements of Eurocode 5, and provide more detailed feedback for the user, including numerical strength/stress comparisons of timber performance. The report is further customised with the users company name.

A free online demonstration version of timbersizerPro EC5 is available to enable customers to preview the tool. Demo version

Also Available: Eurocode 5 Connections
This design tool calculates the resistance to lateral and axial loads of timber-to-timber, plywood-to-timber or steel-to-timber connections made with nails, wood screws, bolts or dowels inserted at right-angles to the grain. Timber types include solid timber, glulam and structural timber composites. Design loads are calculated to Eurocode 5. Coach screw connections for two-member joints are also included. Eurocode 5 connections is available on a subscription basis only. Rates are inline with timbersizerPro, with reductions for both modules together.

Note
The Eurocode 5 editions of timbersizerPro and timberconnectionsPro have superseded the Software Toolbox suite of timber sizer tools previously published by TRADA as a downloads file. Since March 2010 the Software Toolbox, which was based on BS 5268, has no longer been maintained.
